Still Wet

"We had intended to go to Epidaurus today, but the thunderstorm from yesterday continued unabated, so we decided to visit the local archaeological museum in Tripolis and then head directly back to Athens.

The museum was deserted -- we were the only visitors, but there were 4 staff members on duty. They had some interesting pottery, particularly from the geometric period. There was one piece I particularly liked with a group of 5 or 6 small fish in one of the hashed bands; that particular piece also had double spiral handles.

After we finished at the museum, we headed to the bus terminal to catch the 11:30 bus to Athens. It was a spectacular ride -- part of the route is right on the coast, and we saw dozens of lightning strikes out over the water.

Once we arrived in Athens, we caught the bus to Omonia and walked to the hotel. Since it was pouring rain out, we probably should have taken the subway to Syntagma instead of walking the whole way, but I'm not sure it would have made a difference in the eventual outcome -- we were completely drenched when we arrived at the hotel. Even our shoes were wet all the way through; we'd had to cross patches of water several inches deep and far too wide to jump across. Since we felt like drowned rats, and a lot of our stuff was wet, we spent the rest of the day indoors at the hotel. The weather forecast for tomorrow is more hopeful, though..."
